Metung is a maritime village of peaceful beauty, small and welcoming.  Set in the heart of the Gippsland lakes, life here is still based around the water and recalls its history of boats, fishing and relaxed lifestyles

Situated on Bancroft Bay - part of the Gippsland Lakes, Australia's largest inland waters - Metung is reached via the Princes Highway from Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. Turn south at Swan Reach (between Bairnsdale & Lakes Entrance) and follow the Tambo River to Metung. By car, Metung is 3½ hr from Melbourne.

Metung is popular for its fishing, boating, good food and wine.  Bring your own boat, hire one or go for a cruise. Admire the wonderful wooden boats that are so much a part of this lakeside village. Drop a line in the waters around Metung and while you wait for the fish to bite!

Delight your taste buds with your own catch, or enjoy a wonderful range of seafood, and local wines bought straight from the cellar door. Dine in or enjoy one of Metung's fine restaurants or a pub meal on the waters edge as you take in the view over the bay. Indulge your every sense. Unique galleries featuring renowned artists are dotted throughout the region giving this area a cultured edge.

History of Metung
