Lakes Entrance is a popular holiday destination
at the eastern end of the Gippsland Lakes - the largest inland
network
of waterways in Australia. They cover an area of more than
400 sq klm and are separated from the ocean by a thin sliver of
sand dunes which form a large part of Ninety Mile Beach, which
stretches
down to Port Albert.
A bridge across the Cunningham Arm gives access to the surf beach
from the township.
The town is well developed for the holiday maker and caters for
both seaside recreation and exploration of the mountain country
to the north.
It is the home port for a very large fishing fleet and for many pleasure
craft. Large cruise vessels conduct regular trips throughout the year. Boats can also be hired.
Fishing, both ocean and beach, is popular as are swimming and surfing
on a variety of good beaches.
