Lakes Entrance is a popular holiday destination at the eastern end of the Gippsland Lakes - the largest inland network of waterways in Australia. They cover an area of more than 400 sq klm and are separated from the ocean by a thin stretch of sand dunes which form a large part of Ninety Mile Beach, which stretches down to Port Albert.

A bridge across the Cunningham Arm gives access to the surf beach from the township.

Fishing, both ocean and beach, is popular as are swimming and surfing on a variety of good beaches.
